Music to My Ears
by PTA Mom

Spring is here. Time for out with the old, in with the new—music, that is.  Update your iTunes library or *gasp* buy a new CD that you can actually hold in your hand, or even better…VINYL. We love these new releases from these musicians and we’re even lucky enough to have a few here right from our own backyard.

Antigone Rising- “23 Red”. We love this love all female, indie rock band from NYC. Their latest CD showcases the signature 3-part vocal harmonies that have been known to AR fans familiar with their relentless grass roots tours.  “Borrowed Time”, “Everywhere is Home”, and “One Foot Out the Door”, will have you singing along and strumming your six-string. Also great live - check out their tour dates and buy the CD on May 20th. Watch the video  of “Everywhere is Home”.
Jem Warren- “Lifeblood To My Soul”. Tranquil and subtle, the songs of singer/songwriter Jem Warren will be released on April 29, features 5 singles: two of my favorites are “Jim Jones” and “Freed”.  Jem’s a NYer and performs regularly at venues such as The Bitter End and Caffe Vivaldi and has appeared at the Livingroom and Sidewalk Café. EP CD is available to at www.jemwarren.com. Listen to “Jim Jones”.

G. Love- “Fixin’ to Die”. Although G. Love isn’t new on the music scene, this time he’s minus Special Sauce (his frequent backup band on many other CDs). G. Love’s new buddies, the Avett brothers, created a  floorboard-stompin', hand clappin' energetic cover of Bukka White's "Fixin' To Die." We’re lovin’ the harmonica, banjo, piano, and acoustic guitars that make up this CD. Available on iTunes and also on Vinyl. Yes, Vinyl.
Shawn Mullins- “Light You Up”.  Released in Fall of 2010, the title track “Light You Up”  and “California”  are great kick back, sing along songs that exude sex appeal. Mullins has this wonderful baritone voice that is so seductive and he is one of Atlanta’s better Americana artists and a great story teller. Order the CD here and lucky for us he’s got tour dates along the east coast.
Adele- “21”.  The sophomore CD by this best new artist Grammy award winner for 2009, has already sold more than 350,000 CD’s during its first week out. The irresistible single "Rolling in the Deep," really shows the power of what a great voice can accomplish- she’s got the voice of a modern day Mama Cass.  Check out the video below .
