The 3T panel of reviewers was asked to review some in-home hair color products. Now, normally we would be insulted by the insinuation that we would dare color our own hair as opposed to having a team of people at Fredric Fekkai fawn over our luscious locks, but times are tight and we aren’t looking down our nose at anyone. Plus it’s a good way to touch up in-between visits or to cover some grays.

So, the folks over at Clairol have some new products:

CHAMPAGNE INDULGENCE REVIEW (based on one review)

So, I called the 800# on the box.  The customer service rep was very helpful and said that my experience is highly unusual, that the color should enhance my natural color.  A little more than a month has gone by (probably washing every other day), and the color has lightened, but is still prominent, so it definitely lasts.  My hair is also still super soft and shiny, but ultimately, my key reason for trying this was to have a natural looking shade similar to my own that would cover gray and this did not do that. I would just caution to try the test strand before actually doing my whole head.".

(Editors note: None of our reviewers actually did a strand test.)

PERFECT 10 (compilation of several reviews)

Overall
“So, all in all, I’d say it’s a great in between salon color solution.”

“Definitely liked it and would try it again.”

“Great product, I would use again, only try a different shade! I was happy with the results.”

Color
“I like the color that I used. It was actually lighter on my hair then the box.”

“Color is a little darker than I thought.”

Application
“Comb attachment on the applicator is great for the application on the roots and sides, but be careful when trying to do the rest of your head, if you squeeze to much (like you have to on other products), you have splatter.”

“The application comb was not very good. So, I did what I do with other colors when I occasionally do my own hair, I pour the solution into a small plastic bowl and use a small brush to apply to the roots just like they do at the salon. Works much better.”

Applying the Color
“A little burning sensation after total application (then just cold). No nasty smell.”

“The smell and feel of my hair seemed to be less harsh than some of the other brands.”

“Odd color when applying, the gloves turned purple.”

“It was quick and easy to use, not too smelly, some of them are. I liked the gloves that came with the box.  Directions were easy to read and coloring was simple. “

Conditioner
“And the hair conditioner was really nice too.”

“Intensive conditioner is very nice - hair is very easy to comb through afterward.  Normally, I need a detangler but didn't need anything.”

Grey Coverage
“I must say I was skeptical with the claim that you can color your roots (and grey) in five minutes, and then apply to rest of your hair for a total of 10 minutes. But, I was pleasantly surprised that it did indeed deliver in the promised time.”

“I think I should have left it on for the maximum allowed time (an additional 5 minutes), 15 mins total (for my terribly resistant temples).”

“As far as grey covering, at first it did color all the grey, but I could not give it the full 8 weeks as I find that I have to do my roots ever 3 to 4 weeks.”

Soft and shiny?
“My hair was shinny and soft after the coloring. And the high gloss was great - it was as good as a pricey salon gloss treatment.  The other plus is that color actually stayed true past week four was great.”

“The only downside for me was that the color was one-dimensional, and I actually used another product about a week later to put in a few highlights around the face.”

“The color did offer more of a natural look as it allows for highlights.”

New At-Home Hair Color Products from Clairol
Natural Instincts (washes out in 28 washes) and Perfect 10 by Nice ‘n Easy.  They say it will deliver high gloss, high shine gorgeous color with no tradeoffs in just 10 minutes!  Our panel of tomatoes reviewers spanned all different shades. Here are our reviews:
“I used the Natural Instincts Champagne Indulgence, which is a non-permanent (last 28 washes) for blondes.  The color I picked was close to my hair color, but a little bit lighter.  It was easy to use, didn’t smell and has a great conditioner.  However, it made my hair very dark-much darker than the color on the box (see photo on the left). I started in the front so that had more time exposure and then left it on for 10 minutes as the box said, but it didn’t cover up the few grey hairs I have in the front. The color is not at all what I expected.  I even went to my everyday deli that day for lunch and the guy behind the counter said “Wow- I didn’t recognize you.  Your hair is so dark.
Reviewer placed her hair after color next to color on the box for comparison.
