New Yorker's love their dogs and we welcome visiting dogs too. Here's a little guide to enjoying NYC with your pooch.
Dog Friendly Hotels
There are several dog friendly hotels in NYC like the Tribecca Grand, The Regency and all the W Hotels. In fact, the W’s have doggie water bowls outside their hotels and passing dogs often get biscuits too. And the Benjamin Hotel even has bathrobes for your pooch and gourmet meals. Here's a list with links to NYC's pet friendly hotels.
Doggie Walking Tours: There are several tour groups, liked DoggieTours.com that will organize walking tours for you and your pooch from Central Park, to the Village.
Dog Runs and Swimming Holes: Just because NYC dogs live in apartments, doesn’t mean they can’t run or swim. There are dog runs all over Manhattan and several places where your pooch can swim too. In fact, we love urbanhound.com which is a great resource for NYC doggies, and pooches in Chicago and San Francisco too. And for Central Park lovers, here's a great web site just for dog owners, Central Park Paws.. You'll find a complete list of NYC dog runs here.
Getting around town with your dog: Some NYC cabs will stop and pick up an owner with a dog, but it’s at their discretion. But there are several pet taxi and chauffeur services that will get you anywhere. Here are two:
An airline for dogs If you’re like The Three Tomatoes you’d never think of putting your dog into the cargo of a plan. And now there’s an airline just for dogs, that flies them in the main cabin, and reasonably too. One way rate from Chicago to NYC for example, is $199. Get the details at Pet Airways..
