The Bangs, the Coats, the Gowns.

We’re big fans of Michelle Obama’s style.  She occasionally has a misstep, but overall rocks it. We like the new bangs which make her look younger. The last First Lady to wear bangs was Mamie Eisenhower.  Here’s our review of who wore what well at the inauguration.
The First Lady

We really loved her inauguration day coat and dress, custom made for her by Thom Browne. A much better choice than her ensemble in 2009. The coat and dress are both made of silk jacquard based on a necktie fabric. Under the coat, she's wearing a cardigan by Reed Krakoff.  Not sure that we loved the cardigan over the dress, but that’s her signature.  And interestingly, she wore the coat to church in the morning without the J.Crew belt which she added later.  Another signature look for her, but honestly we think she should have let the belt off.  We loved her boots too were were also Reed Krakoff and her wine-colored gloves from J. Crew added just the right touch. And the Obama girls looked terrific.
The coat was beautiful (love the detail in the back too.) This was at church before she added the belt. (Oh and the guy she's with looks darn spiffy too.)
Mrs. Obama added the belt (we think it detracted a bit); love the boots and gloves. And she added the sweater to the dress too.  Wonder what the designer Thom Browne thought about the added accessories.  The Obama girls looked fabulous, and so grown up.
The Gown.
Other Notables and what they wore.
Dr. Jill Biden, has great style too, although she is rarely covered by the fashionistas.  She  looked terrific in a beautiful grey coat with a huge bow and we loved her white dress too.
Beyonce.  We loved her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, but why she  choose an evening gown, beautiful as it was by Pucci (and a Dior coat), for the day time ceremony?
Eva Longoria. Just love her leather trench…perfect!
Clarissa Gingirch. And is anyone surprised that Clarissa Gingrich (Newt’s current wife) wore a mink coat?

We loved her 2009 Jason Wu gown.  How did this year's stack up?
Wow.  Michelle picked Jason Wu again and wore this stunning long high-neck red chiffon  gown with velvet details.  She wore Jimmy Choo shoes, and a ring by Kimberly McDonald.
