Are you “in the know” about perfect Tee’s for Tomatoes?

It should be a core piece of every Tomatoes summer wardrobe……the tee or tank that makes or breaks your fabulous outfit! They are a must have category and essential to cleanse and rejuvenate every season. You may think this is not an important category to cover………. think again. Not only will they pop last year’s jacket, sweater or shirt but also they are essential under all of the pretty sheer tops that we love to wear on the weekends for cocktails around the pool or on our porch or patio.

Start the process by editing last year’s assortment…only the strong should survive and very few whites and blacks make it to the second season so please put the shabby white’s and greyed blacks to rest. Then review your wardrobe and take note of all of the outfits that require a tank or tee as a layer piece. Try to determine the colors that you think will work with each outfit, and experiment with new fashion colors for the season: yellow a must, greens continue,  purples, soft grey, whitened pinks and blues, Mediterranean brights, soft metalics, bronze, brown, and the non colors: white and black. Modernize your look by selecting new fashion colors….it’s an easy and inexpensive purchase.

Finding the perfect tees and tanks that fit are not easy… especially when one is a Tomato.  Not to worry Tomatoes we have done the research and you can find great comfort and style at The Gap….yes you read that correctly. The quality of their basic short sleeve cotton crew neck tee’s ($10 each when you buy 2) super soft short sleeve v-veck tee ($14.50) ribbed “favorite tanks” ($10 each when you buy 2) and  a  wonderful scoop neck short sleeve tee in a striated cotton ($18.50). The quality is great, colors are fun and the fit is great.(they will shrink a little if you put in the dryer).

Gap Tees

Other stores: Marshalls for Ralph Lauren lovers, Eileen Fisher for heavy duty quality boxy tees with a great needle, and Talbots. Vince (available at Bloomingdales, Saks, Bergdorf’s, Barney’s and many specialty stores) and J. Crew have great tank tops for layering and always will have the top colors of the moment.

Things to remember about choosing your tee’s are:

*Quality in the fabric and the workmanship….stitching and trims speak volumes to quality

*The neckline is a key feature of a winning style. It should always be flattering. Designers make several adjustments and corrections before they will approve their styles for production. Believe me when I say this can make or break a look!

*Whites should be pure whites and you must have several new white tees every season. Blacks should be rich and saturated…..greyed blacks are as bad as last year’s whites

*Colors should be pretty and soft, happy and bright or rich and sophisticated…..dreary colors are sad and Tomatoes should never look sad

*Sleeve length should be flattering to your arm if you are wearing a tee or tank without a jacket or sweater…..capito?

*Tanks are really where I think you can play with color….so go wild.
Enjoy your tee’s and tanks Tomatoes and remember to experiment and have fun!
