Usually when I pick up a non-fiction book, I find myself getting impatient. I’ll start skimming paragraphs to get to the juicy parts. Well, this book is all juice. I found myself reading and rereading each and every sentence to make sure I didn’t miss a drop.
The descriptions of the environment set the mood and ambience. When the character was going through emotional upheavals, I felt emotional too. I’ve been where she was; I think most of us have. There is a struggle between doing what other people tell you what you should do, and following your own heart. Lena, the main character, was going through this struggle and looking for answers as life twisted and turned for her in ways that were familiar. This was done in a way that will empower the reader and keep you fascinated every step of the way.
When Lena was in France, I felt like I was in France. The background information was accurate, very well researched, and presented in vivid detail. Thank you Jacqueline E. Luckett for bringing that to life for me in a way I’ve never experienced before.
I believe every woman over the age of thirty that has gone through any kind of major life change could relate to the character and appreciate the messages in this book. Lena’s search for Tina Turner is much deeper than just finding a star. Tina became a champion and role model that helped Lena carry on despite the deep challenges that she was facing in her life. Lena’s final answer to Tina’s question, “What’s Love Got to do With It?” could be a motto for any of us to pursue.
There is camaraderie, inspiration and romance to be found in this book. I was delighted with the surprise ending. I was amazed that this was the author’s first book. I’ll be looking forward to seeing how she can top this extraordinary story.

Synopsis: On the surface, Lena Spencer appears to have it all. She and her wealthy husband Randall have two wonderful children, and they live a life of luxury. In reality, however, Lena finds that happiness is elusive. Randall is emotionally distant, her son has developed a drug habit, and her daughter is disgusted by her mother's "overbearing behavior." When Randall decides that he's had enough of marriage counseling, he offers his wife an ultimatum: "Be grateful for all I've done for you or leave." Lena, realizing that money can't solve her problems and that her husband is no longer the man she married, decides to choose the latter. Drawing strength from Tina Turner's life story, SEARCHING FOR TINA TURNER is Lena's struggle to find herself after 25 years of being a wife and mother.
