Restoration
Have you ever been moved by something that is an inanimate object? By a piece of art work, stone, chiseled and cold?
Have you ever been lucky enough to see The David up close and personal?
If you have, you know it's a wonder of imagination, creativity, and divine inspiration.
Now add to these previously posed questions, the notion that life is much more than living within the safety of a museum, and that relationships are always the hardest part of being human. With that I suggest you head to the lower east side to see Restoration, Claudia Shear's latest effort, at the New York Theater Workshop on East 4th Street.
A two-time Tony Award-nominee, playwright, and actress, Ms. Shear has reunited with director Christopher Ashley to create and star in her new play. Shear plays Giulia, a down-on-her-luck art restorer from Brooklyn who receives what could possibly be a career-reviving job of “refreshing” Michelangelo’s David in time for its quincentennial celebration in Florence.
Claudia is just so much fun to watch on stage. I mean, there is only one colorful, larger than life and delightful Claudia Shear, and now is your chance to see her perform the delightful piece that she created. The entire cast is fabulous, each one with a terrific accent.
But I have to point out the delicious Jonathan Cake, who plays a stunningly beautiful Italian man spot on. (He is British.)
Claudia and Cake (that sounds like the beginnings of a great play itself!) have amazing chemistry on stage and their
wonderful repartee is a tremendous treat... Like Cake himself is, and Claudia, herself, often points out.
Yep, get to see Restoration before it closes on June 13th.
You will be delighted on many levels.
