Hello fellow tomatoes,
With the beautiful Memorial Day weekend behind us, we've been bitten by the summer fun bug and now is the time to start to think about the weekend again!
So some suggestions for you to consider:
Before it closes on June 6th, go see The Housewives of Mannheim, at 59e59 Theater. A poignant, funny, stimulating and multi-layered play, this piece takes us back to 1944 in Flatbush, Brooklyn, when four housewives are dealing with the War and life without their husbands, who have left Brooklyn to be a part of the war effort. A beautiful set, great music, and challenging issues, this is a theatrical piece that I know you would enjoy. Go to www.59e59.org
June 6th begins a month long celebration of Russian culture in New York, and so The 8TH ANNUAL RUSSIAN HERITAGE FESTIVAL kicks off this Sunday with a free event at Seaside/Asser Levy Park in Brooklyn. You can enjoy music, dance, food, arts, crafts, and events for the entire family.
And while we're at it, head on out to a great festival in midtown Manhattan on Saturday. The International Cultures Festival gets underway at 11 am on Saturday on 6th Avenue from 42nd to 57th Streets.
There will be many things to do and see, but I will be involved in the
U. S. launch of Italy's #1 cheese brand, Galbani.
And this Saturday, during the festival, the Galbani Caprese Challenge will take place. It's designed as a cooking competition where contestants are asked to create their most unique spin on a traditional Caprese salad by using core ingredients: Galbani Fresh Mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, olive oil, etc.
• Three aspiring chefs from the Culinary Institute of America will compete in the Galbani Caprese Challenge by creating their original recipes, live on our outdoor stage, which will be equipped with a mobile kitchen. The Galbani stage and booth will be located at 50/51st streets, near Radio City Music Hall.
• Contestants will serve their dish to a panel of three judges. Judges will rate each contestant’s dish based on preset criteria.
• The contestant with the highest point total, as determined by the panel of judges, will win a $5,000 cash prize. I am looking forward to emceeing this event. So come on by, watch the competition, and say Hello!
And finally, the Juvenile Diabetes Walk takes place in Howard Beach, Queens this weekend. I did it last year and it was a beautiful stroll through some lovely neighborhoods.
