Synopsis: With glue guns, glitter, twigs, or yarn, the ordinary can become extraordinary . . . especially at La Pachanga. Owned by Estrella "Star" Esteban's family, the restaurant has a rep for two things: good food and great art. La Pachanga brings people together-even when it looks like they couldn't be further apart.

One ill-fated evening, Star jeopardizes her family's business, her relationship with her boyfriend, and her future career. To redeem herself, she agrees to participate in a national craft competition, teaming up with her best friend, Ofelia-a secretly troubled mother whose love for crafting borders on obsession-and local celebrity Chloe Chavez-a determined television personality with more than one skeleton in her professional closet. If these unlikely allies can set aside their differences, they'll find strength they never knew they had, and learn that friendship, like crafting, is truly an art form.

Waking Up in the Land of Glitter is a novel that has left me feeling as if I can conquer the world!  It was completely enthralling.  In fact, my husband even called me a weirdo as I actually did laugh out loud, and even have to wipe tears away at more poignant points in the story.  That is something I just don't do, but this book contains some potent content that is crafted in a way that left me helpless to its charm.

This story highlights three women, all with very different lifestyles.  They come together through an unusual twist of events that lead to some incredible escapades in each of their lives. You will become deeply acquainted with Star, the lovable, yet scattered lost soul, Ofie, the domestic goddess with husband, child, and a slightly neurotic bent, to Chloe, the Diva-est of Diva's.

The author also touches a bit on each of the lesser character's lives as well to give an excellent depth to the storyline without getting too watered down with extraneous information.  It all comes together superbly to give us the opportunity to experience a most remarkable journey.  Embellished, of course, with a rich and colorful background that only the truest of Latina ladies could host up.

One of the things that truly impressed me the most about this book, is it didn't meander.  Every paragraph is exciting and vibrant, much as you would expect a book with the word "Glitter" in the title to have.  Don't be fooled though, there is no Foo-Foo contained within.  This is an earthy, sensual read from start to finish.  Well, except perhaps for Star's mother, but her New Age Airy Fairiness is an endearing quality that isn't over the top by any means.

Overall, I hope this book becomes a movie.  I'll be the first one in line to buy tickets, and I'll have my glitter heels and a crafty hat on to match.
